Kitchen Expansion Project
In October, the church council appointed a committee to work with our architect on a kitchen expansion plan appropriate for our fellowship hall and the number of volunteers needed to serve meals. Drawings and cost estimates, together with some pros and cons of each option are shown to the right. Scroll further down this page for Q&A.
We are asking members to prayerfully consider a gift towards this project and submit their intention by March 2, 2025 by using the button below.
Q & A
Why are we looking to remodel the kitchen?
The new fellowship hall’s more frequent and larger meals require more volunteers and a different work flow than what the current kitchen was designed for 23 years ago.
Why didn’t we remodel the kitchen as part of our recent facility expansion?
It was considered during the design phase of the project but dropped from the plan due to cost.
Would COS ever need a commercial grade kitchen?
Only if we wanted to make food for the general public (ie a soup kitchen, Meals on Wheels, daycare, event venue) or if we wanted commercial cooking appliances in our kitchen.
Why is the Commercial Grade Kitchen so expensive?
It has commercial cooking appliances, which can make more food more quickly. It therefore requires a commercial range hood. The cost of these appliances, hood, and the necessary mechanical upgrades account for the cost difference.
How is this project going to be funded?
We are conducting capital campaign to raise the money needed to cover total cost of the project.
What is a capital campaign?
The membership of COS is asked to prayerfully consider making financial gifts to the kitchen project which are over-and-above-their regular offerings. They are also asked to indicate their intention either electronically (using the form at the top of this page) or by paper (available on the counter in the narthex) by Sunday, March 2, 2025.
How do I remit my gifts for the kitchen project?
Designate your gifts: “building fund.” Gifts labeled “kitchen” will be deposited into the building fund as well.
How long do I have to remit my intended gift to the kitchen project?
18 months. September, 2026.
Why does it help for my household to indicate its intended gift for the kitchen project?
Knowing the congregation’s intended level of support will enable our kitchen committee to zero in on the type of kitchen to build. Then, while gifts are being received, the drafting construction documents, bidding, permitting, etc can happen so that construction can be started sooner rather than later.
